River Restoration Initiative · Indore, India · Est. 2025

Engineering nature's flow back to life.

Pravāh is a non-profit river restoration initiative — combining technology, science, and community action to rejuvenate India's rivers. Starting with the Saraswati and Kanh in Indore.

Who We Are

Rivers are not problems.
They are systems.

Pravāh was founded on a simple belief: that rivers don't just need cleaning — they need restoration at a systems level. Pollution, encroachment, reduced flow, broken ecology — these are engineering and governance problems that need engineering and governance solutions.

We combine technology and science to develop restoration techniques, while simultaneously building a community of people who care deeply about their rivers and act on that care.

Let's give our rivers another life.

प्रवाह
Sanskrit — "the flow and current of a river." Used in hydrology. Rooted in culture. Built for the future.
2
Rivers being researched — Saraswati and Kanh — both flowing through Indore, merging at a single confluence point.
2
Operational wings — Tech Wing developing restoration science, Social Wing mobilising communities and driving action.
Phase 01
Currently in research & documentation. Field surveys of both rivers underway from origin to confluence.
How Pravāh Operates

One mission.
Two wings.

We believe river restoration needs both rigorous science and people power. Pravāh is structured around two complementary wings that work together.

TECH
Wing 01 — Technology
Tech & Research Wing

Developing science-backed techniques, tools, and systems for river restoration. This wing treats rivers as engineering problems and builds solutions that can scale across India.

🔬
Field Research & Surveys
Systematic origin-to-confluence river mapping, water quality testing, flow measurement
📊
Data & Diagnostics
GIS mapping, hydrological modeling, open datasets for researchers and policymakers
⚙️
Restoration Techniques
Developing bio-remediation, natural flood management, and urban recharge solutions
🏛️
Policy & Advocacy
Translating research into actionable policy briefs and institutional partnerships
SOCIAL
Wing 02 — Community
Social & Community Wing

Mobilising people, building awareness, and taking direct action on the ground. This wing connects everyday citizens to the mission — locally and worldwide.

🌿
River Cleanup Drives
Organised, data-tracked cleanup events — not one-offs but part of a sustained action calendar
📢
Awareness Campaigns
Digital and on-ground campaigns educating communities about river health and conservation
🌍
Global Volunteer Network
Linking volunteers, students, and activists worldwide who care about rivers
🎓
Education & Outreach
Workshops, school programs, and content that builds the next generation of river guardians
Our Rivers

Where two rivers
become one.

The Saraswati and Kanh rivers both flow through Indore and meet at a confluence within the city. These are Pravāh's founding rivers — and the starting point of everything.

Saraswati River
सरस्वती
Flows through urban Indore. Historically significant, now heavily impacted by encroachment and urban drainage. Our first field survey target.
Survey Active — Phase 01
Confluence
Indore
Kanh River
कान्ह
Merges with the Saraswati within Indore city limits. A critical urban river facing similar pressures — pollution, narrowing, and reduced ecological flow.

How We Work

Science meets
community action.

01 — RESEARCH
🔬
Field Documentation
Systematic tracking of rivers from origin — mapping course, measuring flow, documenting encroachment and ecological health with scientific rigor.
02 — ANALYSIS
📊
Data & Diagnostics
Water quality testing, hydrological modeling, GIS mapping. Building open datasets that researchers, government, and citizens can use freely.
03 — ENGINEERING
⚙️
Restoration Solutions
Developing bio-remediation, natural flood management, and urban recharge structures — tested, documented, and designed to scale.
04 — ACTION
🌿
Ground Cleanup Drives
Organised, data-tracked cleanup events as part of a sustained action plan — not isolated days, but a continuous restoration effort on the riverbanks.
05 — COMMUNITY
🌍
People Network
Building a worldwide network of volunteers, students, engineers, and river advocates — people who stay invested, not just show up once.
06 — SCALE
🗺️
Replicable Model
Everything we build for Saraswati and Kanh is a blueprint. One city, two rivers, one model — designed to be replicated across India.

Survey 001: Mapping the Saraswati & Kanh — Two Rivers, One City

First systematic field survey of both rivers — walking from origin to confluence, documenting conditions, obstruction points, and collecting water samples. The two rivers that define Indore's water story, mapped for the first time as a unified system.
